In January 2019, Gagosian presented new works by Marc Newson. This was the brand's first exhibition of limited edition furniture in more than ten years.
Returning to his roots as a jeweler and silversmith, this exhibition saw Mark explore increasingly rare decorative techniques on an unconventionally large, even unprecedented scale. His cast glass chairs, made in the Czech Republic, are continuous, symmetrical shapes composed of two hollow quarter spheres. The brightly colored upper halves rest on transparent bases that absorb some of the reflected hues in their murky interior, an effect that varies slightly depending on the vantage point.
